Sangiovese reigns here, thriving in the rocky Apennine foothills and fertile plains. Modern examples add Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, while more traditional wines blend in the local Pignoletto and Ancellotta varieties. Whites are often made from Trebbiano, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
